PLANES

• Birmingham International Airport – the UK’s second largest regional airport and home to over 50 airlines, operating more than 300 services daily to more than 100 worldwide including long haul destinations such as New York, Toronto, Dubai & Delhi.  Birmingham airport carries the highest proportion of business traffic-after Heathrow.  

• East Midlands Airport near Nottingham is the UK’s number one pure cargo terminal handling nearly 250,000 tonnes of cargo annually.  It also has passenger services to over 60 key European and international destinations and in 2005 it was named the ‘Best UK Airport’ at the British Travel Awards – the industry benchmark for excellence.      

• London’s Heathrow and other key international airports within an hour


TRAINS

• Birmingham’s New Street rail station is the UK’s main national rail interchange.  It has more direct train services to other UK towns and cities than other station on the British railway network and has 1,350 trains and 120,000 passengers passing through it each day. 

• Fast and frequent passenger trains to London throughout the day.

• Fantastic rail links to mainland Europe – from 2008 the Eurostar service from St Pancreas in London will provide direct links from the region to Paris and Brussels in around 3 hours.  St Pancreas is the main London Station accessed from Nottingham, Derby & Leicester & 5 minutes walk from Euston, the main London station accessed from Birmingham.    

• 3 major international rail freight terminals are located in the British Midlands, allowing fast distribution of freight throughout the UK and into Europe via the Channel Tunnel. 

• An extensive regional railway network and excellent bus services offers some of the shortest travel-to work times in the UK
